Geraldines Begin Their Joe Ward Campaign

The Gers Seniors are out in action on July 26th v Dundalk Gaels in their first outing of this years Senior Championship and after that they will face Newtown Blues in August.

Either way, both games are do or die, as is the nature of championship football. After entering last years championship carrying a number of injuries and departures, the team is only without Gareth Neacy and Aaron Murray as both are in the US for the summer with the lads strategically taking one coast each for maximum exposure for the club.

Apart from that, the squad has been preparing for this much with only a small number of injury concerns, an expected situation considering the intensity of summer training.

The Dundalk Gaels are favourites for Sundays crunch clash, after dismantling the Newtown Blues last week, the team to which the lads fell victim in last years quarter final.

Throw in is at 3.15 in Dowdallshill, with Stephen Murphy taking charge of proceedings from the middle of St. Brigids Park.
The last time, the men in green took to the pitch in Dowdallshill, it was raining, they were playing the Brides and it was championship also.
A similar result would leave all in Blackrock and Haggardstown happy come Sunday evening.

Gers Do Strictly: A Strictly Unforgettable Night!

On Saturday May 31st, the people of not only Blackrock and Haggardstown, but much further afield GeraldinesCrest_Dancersgathered in the Fairways Hotel to watch 42 dancers put on a show that will go down in parish folklore as an unforgettable night.

It was a real community night for everyone and the Geraldines along with the three local schools were immensely proud in bringing the parish of Blackrock and Haggardstown together for such an event.

On the night, it was the gracefulness of Niall Carroll and Shaunna Cahill that saw them win the competition in spectacular fashion, with runners-up Josh Arrowsmith and Sarah McArdle wowing the crowd with their dramatic piece and unlucky on the night to not win, it was a testament to the quality of the nights dancing that their efforts were only second best.

The group dance near the end had the Fairways hopping and when the can-can finished the night off in style, it set-up the whole crowd for the after party that ensued in the lobby outside.

It was a truly remarkable night and the money raised is only helping to further improve the facilities within the community with the Geraldines nearing completion of a renovated clubhouse that will contain an all new club gym and downstairs bar alongside renovated toilets and general layout of the clubhouse.

The three schools will also benefit from the night and we hope that the event also increased the social presence of the clubs and schools.

Lastly, we want to thank all of the people involved in putting the night together and making it such a huge success whilst also extending our most sincere gratitude towards all 42 of our dancers whose enthusiasm right from the get go made for 21 spectacular dances as well as their tremendous fundraising efforts. On behalf of the committee and the wider Geraldines GFC family, we will be eternally grateful.
