"AR AGHAIDH LEIS NA GEARALTIGH" - Centenary Dance a huge Success

Last friday night over 450 friends of Geraldines gfc gathered in the Banqueting hall at the fairways hotel to celebrate the occasion of 100 years in existence.

Guests were treated to a champgaine reception on arrival as they viewed the spectacular display of photographs of teams and various parish occasions.

Once seated guests watched a 20 minute powerpoint presentation on the big screen (very professionally put together by Gerry Connor) featuring the history of the Club from small beginnings to the present day.

Guest of honour was Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Aherne who congratulated the club for continually improving their facilities at Pairc Sheamais Mhic Eochaidh.

Gerry Kelly from LMFM was the MC for the night, A very successful raffle and an auction were held to raise funds for St Furseys underage teams. Sean Geeny from Castlebellingham did a fine job as auctioneer, the most sought after item was of course the Tyrone jersey signed by the champions - those with Tyrone connections fought it out till it was eventually knocked down to a well known but now retired junior footballer and Blackrock property developer!!

Well done to the organising committee of John Pepper, Gerry Connor, Paul Reneghan, Colm Mackin, Scruff and Chairman Gerry Reenan for putting on a fantastic night- everyone would agree that the night they planned and executed was nothing short of perfect - who needs professional event organisers when you have the likes of these guys around!

Gerry Connnors presentation concluded with the war-cry once coined by a former chairman now turned politician "ar aghaidh leis na Gearaltigh" - here's to the next 100!

Thanks to all the sponsors, those who supported fundraising efforts on the night and indeed all year

Junior Season Over after defeat to the Martins
After a long year the Gers Junior team brought the curtain down on their season losing in dreadful conditions in Hunterstown to the Martains. It was been a good year for the new management team headed by Aja McCrave, with many new young players coming through the ranks. The likes of Joe Conlon, Rory Mackin and Edward Smyth all gained vital experience at senior level that will stand to them in the future.

Successful finish to season for Geraldines
The Gers made it four wins in the trot at the end of the season with a fine win over a dogged Termonfeckin side at McGeough Park on Sunday 31st October. A final score of 1-9 to 0-5 meant an easy win for the Gers in the end, but it wasn't until a Niall Carroll goal 10 minutes into the second half that made the result secure. Gers had a slim hope of a playoff for a Senior spot but the Oliver Plunketts won easy against the Dreadnots to put an end to that. The Final league table looked like this:

Last Saturday in Collon, St. Fursey’s u-13’s made history by winning for the third successive year, the Louth County League by defeating a very fancied Oliver Plunkett’s side from Drogheda. Defeat for Gers in Grogan Cup Semi Final

Geraldines 0-8 St. Fechins 1-7

Fechins where worthy winners of this play off for a place in the Final on a beautiful Sunday morning in McGeough Park. Fechins going in at half time were leading by just the one point would have been disappointed after missing numerous of chances.

Geraldines in the second half came out firing in all cylinders and seem to taking control of the game, but just when the going was good a bit of slack defending which led to the Fechins scoring a very slack goal. Geraldines goalkeeper really should off done a lot better, with the loss Joe Corcoran up front (unavailable) and Paddy McGuinness through injury half way through the second half, it was plain sailing for the Fechins and never look like loseing from then on in.

Geraldines will really need to pick themselves up and get back to winning ways, with two games left in the league and fighting to stay up in the top division of intermediate a big effort is needed over the next few weeks.Best for the Gers were Paudie Hoey, Shane Thorthon and Roger Lynch.

Gers Seniors win away to the Dreadnots

On Saturday evening last, a very determined geraldines put in a great display to beat championship semi finalist the Dreadnots in Clogherhead. They dominated the game and still came out 2-10 to 2-7 winners after letting in two soft goals. Joe Corcoran scored two penalty's and Barry Renaghan scored 5 points from his new position of full forward. John Neary had a great game at center half and seems to be back to his best. Ed Smyth was handed the task of marking Colin Kelly and did so very well keeping him very quiet during the game. The new midfield partnership of Paudi Lynch and John Sands worked well in the middle, while Paddy McGuinness was rock solid at full back.
